DESCRIPTION
The LAUNCH X431 OBD1 Non-16 Pin Adapter Box Kit expands compatible LAUNCH diagnostic systems to vehicles that do not use the standardized 16-pin OBDII diagnostic connector.
Before OBDII became widely standardized, manufacturers used their own proprietary diagnostic connectors. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Ford, Chrysler, Kia, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, GM and other manufacturers therefore require specific physical adapters on many older vehicles.
The LAUNCH kit provides the physical connection between these manufacturer-specific diagnostic sockets and a compatible LAUNCH X431 VCI, allowing the X431 diagnostic software to communicate with supported legacy vehicle control systems.
“OBD1” is commonly used to describe these older systems, but unlike OBDII, OBD1 was not one universal connector or communication standard. Connector design, diagnostic protocols and available functions vary according to vehicle manufacturer, model, market and production year.
Used when the proprietary diagnostic socket provides sufficient power.
Allows the OBD I adapter to receive power directly from the vehicle battery when required.
Alternative external power source where supported by the vehicle.

The adapter kit provides the required physical diagnostic connection. Actual diagnostic functions still depend on the connected LAUNCH X431 tool, installed vehicle software, vehicle manufacturer, model, year and ECU.
